3 weeks to go! The children had great fun this week and were very lucky to take part in a circus skills workshop! They were able to learn lots of new skills such as juggling, balancing and ribbon twirling.

In Maths, the children did really well with long division. Perhaps ask them if they could teach you at home! We will be continuing with this next week and then moving onto securing decimals.

In English, the children have learnt how to write persuasively and have thoroughly enjoyed completing their leaflets for their new Roman Baths!

I understand that as we are coming to the end of term, some children have already completed their homework. This is fine, however please ensure they are completing their SPAG mats and Mathletics challenge for Monday.

Have a wonderful weekend in the sun! Don't forget your sun-cream and drink plenty of water!

In Maths this week, the children will be learning the long division method.

In English, we will be writing up our leaflets in neat.

As the weather is particularly hot this week, please ensure your child has a sunhat and a water bottle in school.

What a fun week! We had an amazing school trip and a week full of science! Have a look through the photos I have uploaded of our Verulamium visit, we had a lot of fun, and learnt lots of interesting Roman facts! The children have been learning Roman numerals in Maths this week. Perhaps they could teach you too! We are also becoming very good at telling the time, please do keep testing them whenever you are around an analogue clock.

In English next week, we will be continuing to write a persuasive text all based around our topic the Romans!

As you know, it is our sports day on Monday. The children may come in a t-shirt of their house colour. They can change into their school PE shorts when they arrive in the morning. You are welcome to come and watch from 1:30.

On Friday, we have our wellbeing day.  The children will be taking part in lots of activities including mindfulness and yoga.

It's science week! We have a very exciting week lined up with lots of fun workshops and a really exciting assembly on Monday. We will also be carrying out some fun experiments in the afternoons!

As you know, we have our school trip to St Albans coming up on Tuesday. The children are all really excited about this and going to see the Roman ruins. We will be leaving at 9am on the Tuesday morning so I will be asking the children to come straight in to the classroom to get ready. The children will need to be in school uniform with a sun hat and sun cream applied in the morning please. We will be taking our water bottles with us.

As you may be able to tell, the children have done really well with learning how to tell the time. I am one proud teacher! We will be moving onto Roman Numerals this week which fits nicely into our topic.

In English, the children will be learning about persuasion texts and will be creating their own leaflets persuading others to visit their brand new Roman Baths!

In Maths, we are continuing to learn how to tell the time.

As a part of the homework, the children bring home a SPAG mat every week. I understand that some children are finding parts quite tricky, however, I am able to use this to assess what the children know and what the children need to work on. Just try your best!

Have a great week!

Kestrel Weekly News

We've had another great week of learning. The children have been busy learning about

written multiplication in Maths and have been working on the column method. We have used base ten to help them to understand what each digit represents in the sum. We will continue to practice this method this week so the children can secure it. The Mathletics task this week will be the column method of multiplication. We will be moving onto division later in the week.

The children are loving Ottoline and the Yellow Cat. We have nearly finished the book now and will be studying the features of a mystery story this week ready to write their own next week.

We had great fun with the Premier League Primary Stars football coaches on Monday. The children will be developing their fundamental movement skills through a series of fun and exciting lessons. Please make sure your child has an appropriate pair of trainers in school for this as the lessons will mostly be outside.

In Topic, the children began to learn about how the Romans invaded Britain and took part in some role play which was very exciting to watch.

A HUGE well done to Charlie for arranging our non-school uniform day on Friday in aid of the WWF and standing up and speaking in front of the entire school. What a massive achievement, we are very proud!

Just a quick reminder for the homework task. Please ensure your child is completing the SPAG mat they are bringing home in their homework book. I will then mark these and they will go into their English folders in school. They should also be completing the Mathletics task which is relevant to their learning in school. Please see me if there are any problems completing this at home.

Lets hope the sun returns!

We’ve had a great first week back! The children have started to read Ottoline and the Yellow Cat in English and are really enjoying it. We will be studying this book and learning all about mystery stories for the next couple of weeks.

In Maths, the children have continued to learn about fractions which was reflected in the Mathletics task set. This week, we will be taking a break from fractions and moving into written multiplication.

It has been beautiful weather this week and will hopefully continue to be. Please ensure your child has a sun hat which they can keep in school and a water bottle.

We will be working with Premier Football every Monday and the children will have a specialist teaching them all about football. This will be on the field so please ensure that your child has a pair of trainers in school for this. We are also completing a daily mile everyday where the children have the option of wearing trainers.

We have started to learn about Romans in our topic lessons. I have been arranging the school trip this term to be based around this subject. We will be visiting the Verulamium museum in St Albans and taking part in a walking tour to see the Roman ruins. A letter will be sent home with the children sometime in the next couple of weeks.

On Friday, Kestrel Class will be having a talent show and we will be sending the top two acts through to the whole school final. No more than four children in a group please. The children have been informed and we are excited to see all of the talents the children have.

Two days left! Last week we wrote our stories in English, they are brilliant and we learnt about angles in maths. Test your children by asking them what a right angle is! We've also been very creative this week and had the chance to make lots of lovely crafts. Monday afternoon is our class Christmas party. I have asked the children to bring in some sort of party food. It doesn't need to be a lot. This could be some fruit, something savoury such as sausage rolls, some popcorn or biscuits etc. Thank you very much!

Don't forget we are singing in John Lewis on Monday at 10am now. We will be standing somewhere by the lifts in the actual store if you would like to come and watch.

Book bags do not need to come back in until January. Term will finish at 1:30pm on Tuesday so the children will be having lunch in school.

Don't forget your book bags and homework books on Monday!

Kestrel’s Well Being Day

We have had a fantastic day celebrating our mind and body!

The day began with a yoga session with Swift class followed by some Fitter Futures where we worked on our core muscles!

After break we read ‘Have you filled a bucket today?’ and thought about how we could all be bucket fillers!  Then we played Sun in the centre and told other children what we liked about them. We also had to go and write on children’s flowers things we liked about them.

Next we made mindfulness jars to help us when we want to feel calm as well as decorating smiley face biscuits!

To end our well being day we enjoy some fun outside in the sunshine with Nightingales playing tennis, football, Frisbee and golf to name a few things!

I hope you all enjoyed your day as much as I did and are feeling happy and confident for your half term. Enjoy and see you on the 5th!
