Science - Sound Experiment

We made sounds by banging metal spoons together, hitting objects, pinging elastic bands and humming with our voices. This created vibrations which in turn created sound waves which travelled through the air. These sound waves moved the rice on the cling film.

I’ve really enjoyed all the work you have completed for Children’s Mental Health Week.  I hope you had as much fun as the children in school.  Well done to all of you for all your hard work this Half Term.  I’m sure you will be pleased to know we have reached the last week of the term.  

 

For those of you Home Learning you will need some resources for Science this week on Tuesday - cress seeds, compost or cotton wool, container and cling film and for Chinese New Year Activities ingredients if you wish to make the dumplings and paper to make the origami ox or Chinese lanterns..

Week Commencing 1st February 2021

 

Some amazing work completed again this week and you are all becoming IT specialists.

Keep an eye on your Science Experiment.  The water levels are still changing on ours in school.  

 

For those of you Home Learning the only resources you need this week are pencils, paper and coloured pencil or felt tips.

 

It is Children’s Mental Health Week, so we will be spending every afternoon on a different task to Express Ourselves which is the theme this year.  Hopefully, parents may be able to take some time out too.  Don’t forget it is non-uniform day on Friday for those in school and maybe those at home may like to wear their school sweatshirt.  Or you could maybe express yourself by having a wacky hairstyle or bright clothes.

This week for Music we will be listening to Christmas related music by various composers.

 

In PE we are learning about the sport of Speed Stacking and skills to speed stack.  Please ensure your child attends school in their PE kit on a Wednesday. This should include a tracksuit top and bottom as PE.  If your child has pierced ears, they must either bring tape to cover their earrings, remove them for PE or not wear earrings on a Wednesday.

 

In English, we are continuing with The BFG by Roald Dahl to inspire our writing.  In Spelling we will be reviewing the children’s knowledge of the Next 200 High Frequency Words. For Guided Reading we are using Christmas Ads to develop our comprehension skills.

 

In Maths, we are learning about Multiplication and Division.  Don’t forget to visit the Mathletics website for practise on the current Maths topic. Our weekly times table test is on a Monday.

 

If you have forgotten your children’s logins, you can find them in the back of their Home Learning books, along with their Google Classroom login.

 

For History we are learning about Stonehenge. Whilst in Science the children are using their knowledge about circuits to make a Christmas Card.

Webinar with Author Robin Stevens

The children were lucky to take part in a webinar organised by Puffin Books with the author Robin Stevens.  She has written the series of books Murder Most Unladylike.  Her new book is set in Egypt which ties in well with our History Topic - Ancient Egypt.

 

The children learnt about how and why she became an author, the process of writing a book and listened to a section of the book.

 

We were not lucky enough to get our question asked this time.

Due to Covid-19, children have been discouraged from bringing, any unnecessary belongings into school. 

However, 'Show and Tell' is key to developing children's ability to speak in front of others and gaining a sense of identity.  Therefore, this term children may 'Show and Tell' about their culture and religion by parents emailing (to admin) a photo of the item their child wishes to share on this British Values topic.  The children will then have an opportunity to talk about the picture sometime during the week. Culture, can relate to any tradition or custom your family follow.  This could include clubs your child attends, such as Guiding or Scouts.
